Happy Tuesday, folks! I love switching things up and trying new things with my blog, so today I thought I’d go for something totally different! I get a lot of comments on my skin, and in the past I received a request to do a post about my skincare routine. Beauty/makeup/skincare is not a topic that I have delved into before here on the blog, but who says I can’t try something new*? I am not a dermatologist or a “beauty blogger,” but maybe you’ll find something helpful here anyway!
1. I found a face wash that changed my life. I can’t take all the credit for this – my aunt found it, who told my mom, who then told me. My mom buys it for me from Sam’s (over the counter), but it is available several places online if you Google the name “Aqua Glycolic” (here is the link to it at drugstore.com). I tell everyone who asks me about this face wash, and I have yet to encounter someone who has heard about it. It’s not fancy or name brand or expensive, but it works. I’ve been using it daily for 3-4 years now and I rarely ever get a blemish anymore. It’s a game changer, my friends. I know that products don’t work the same for everyone, but it’s worth a go if you’re looking to try something new.
2. I take care of my skin every single day. Post-college, I don’t think I’ve ever gone to bed with my makeup still on. I take it off with Neutrogena wipes every single night. I moisturize and wash my face twice a day. I also use a face scrub once a day and I wash my eyelashes with baby shampoo once a day (I am extremely prone to styes, hence the eyelash washing). All of the products above can be found at Target or your local drug store.
3. I drink water all day, every day. We’ve always heard that drinking water is good for your skin. I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. I always have a glass of water with me – on my desk, nightstand, coffee table, etc. In fact – water, tea, and coffee are pretty much the only beverages I drink. I love alcohol, but I find that after a night of drinking that my skin looks really dull the next morning. I can definitely tell the difference!
4. I stay out of the sun. I work full time in a cancer hospital where cancer prevention is constantly preached. I think it’s one thing to read a skin check guide in Glamour magazine, and a totally different ball game to work with cancer patients every day. The work I do definitely gets to me. I’m ashamed to say that I used to go to tanning beds when I was a teenager. Fortunately, I had the sense knocked into me in my early 20′s and I learned to stay away! I’ve come to accept the fact that I will be forever alabaster. I still love going to pools, beaches, and water parks (this is Texas, after all), but sunscreen is an absolute must! I’m trying to postpone the wrinkles for as long as I can, and my fear of cancer is pretty intense – so two birds, one stone, or whatever.
*Speaking of trying something new, have you noticed my new blog design? The design was created by Livy Smith Designs, and I highly recommend checking her out! She does great work and her rates are super affordable!
